Ash and Dan’s gorgeous day was one I was beyond excited to be invited to photograph because a few years ago they had been in front of my camera down at Mornington on the beach…. and it was a pretty special set of images we made together. Ash and Dan are both from the same side of the fence…. in that they both know how to work hard to make life work for them. That was obvious with the little thoughtful touches that happened throughout their day.
There was special gifts for Ashlee from Dan that made a tear or two roll down cheeks….. between Ash, Brittny, Sharna, Nikki and I …. anyway it was a beautiful moment. It’s photographing those moments that are so important…. it’s a piece of the story of the day that Dan planned but then didn’t experience. In fact all the getting ready photos are special to have for that very reason.
Big hugs between the girls as they opened their gifts which Ash had laid out especially for just the right moment. There was little thank you notes from Ash for her Mum and Dad. The boys had their special cuff links. Ash was excited to have a Dad first look moment…. and John, Ashlee’s Dad didn’t disappoint in how he responded to seeing his daughter looking so beautiful on her wedding day.
Ash and Dan chose the Rotunda in Fitzroy gardens for their ceremony performed by Melissa from Life Ceremonies, so they were keeping a close eye on what the typically unpredictable weather was doing. Suffice to say that Melbourne threw on a fine, if steamy, afternoon that had me feeling right at home! One could have been forgiven for thinking we were all in Queensland in the middle of summer. Their guests enjoyed lawn games and refreshments which had been elegantly laid out by Vanessa from Valure Events . After a short wander through the gardens for some casual photos with the bridal party it was time to make our way to the reception venue at Church 364 on Church Street, in Richmond where the drinks flowed and the fun began!
Ash and Dan mixed things up a little, and did their first dance when they arrived followed by the cutting of their cake before the entree’s were served. It kinda had those things out of the way early on, with the speeches being all done between entree and mains. The timeline left plenty of time for everyone to relax and enjoy the informal part of the celebration. An party on they did…. the dance floor was a busy place with DJ Masters taking good care of both the MC job and making sure all the favourite dance floor tunes keeping the atmosphere lively and lots of fun for everyone.
We’ve made them a special highlight film….
