“The morning wind spreads its fresh smell. We must get up and take that in, that wind that lets us live. Breathe before it’s gone.” Rumi
When I think of Bliss and Graeme my mind goes straight to the saying “Breath of fresh air”. Bliss and Graeme both wear their hearts on their sleeves and that’s a rare quality, and it meant, that on their wedding day, I was able to photograph the reality of their love. The smiles are real. The intimate moments are genuine. The fun was contagious.
As a photographer who loves people, what I see through the lens when I push the shutter button is much more than the subject I’m photographing.
I’ve pushed the shutter button while a happiness giggle is bubbling up from inside and I’ve also pushed the button while tears have been dripping down my cheeks.
A photo is not able to lie. It can’t think and it can’t feel. The only thing it can do is show us the pure reality of one certain moment. The camera can only show what it is given (the reality) in exactly the way in which it was given.
These two radiated joy….. naturally… on their wedding day, and it shows in their photos.
Perhaps it was inevitable to have photos like these, with Bliss’ name meaning “Supreme happiness; heaven; perfect joy” and Graeme’s “sensational smile”.
Thank you to you both for being able to be yourselves, and for inviting me to be the person you entrusted with documenting the story of your love and the joy of your wedding day. May these photos be a genuine reminder of the special memories that where created on the day when the story of your family began.
